We have the 1950s to thank for the western custom of eating chips and dips at parties. During this era, home entertaining became less formal and serving guests buffet or coffee table style increased in popularity. As a result chips and crackers began being served with dips, cheese and wine.
This of course wasn't the invention of dips themselves, which food historians tell us we have been dipping into since the beginning of time. Today, dips have evolved to suit every taste, texture and age group. They are a fantastic option for last minute gatherings, when you don't have much time but want to serve your friends something made from scratch.
Kids are drawn to anything they can dip into, so they're also an excellent way to get children eating vegetables without a fuss warning little people are renowned double dippers, so its a good idea to give them their own bowl!
