Hand rolled & traditionally kettle boiled bagels baked daily and delivered direct to you, cafes & restaurants, as well as select markets and general stores - Australia wide. All bagels can be either egg white coated or 100% vegan (olive oil) Artisan Bagels Not all bagels are created equal. You don t need to be a home-baker or an instagram foodie to know that biting into a boiled, freshly-baked bagel is a lot nicer than the store bought variety! We call this Artisan. You hear about artisan, craft and boutique quite a bit these days. In fact, the first question we get asked is, "Are they REAL?" We use the word artisan to describe the attention given to a single bagel made the old-fashioned way, one at a time. From the enduring pre-fermentation process through mixing, hand forming and stretching, Mike's Bagels are then double-boiled, topped and baked to tasteful perfection! It's a process that we've evolved to make a truly unique delicacy that defines a Melbourne laneway, arcade or boutique. Ask Mike's: Frequently Asked Questions When will I receive my bagels? Orders received before 6am are shipped that morning and generally delivered in the afternoon in Melbourne (couriers permitting). Australia wide orders are sent via both Express Post or a courier service depending on postcode and are delivered within their express/courier delivery estimates. 1-2 Days. Are these real bagels? Traditional bagels are shaped by hand into the form of a ring from yeasted dough, roughly hand-sized, that is first boiled for a short time in water and then baked. The result is a chewy interior with a browned exterior. Bagels are topped with seeds baked on the outer crust, with the traditional ones being poppy or sesame seeds. Mike's Bagels are made in this age-old, traditional way! Can I freeze my bagels? Definitely! When you receive your fresh, vacuum sealed lovelies, separate them into daily portions and freeze them. Then pop one in the fridge each night and enjoy the next day toasted! Bagels are similar to fresh bread and should be kept in the same manner as bread. Why are they so ugly? We wouldn't characterise our bagels as ugly. They're beautiful! If you over knead the dough, you can achieve a smooth product that is identical to another. But you don't achieve the best bagel. We under knead the dough and rely on a certain texture, smell and stickiness to create a balance. Whilst bagels are extremely complex in procedure and rely on exact grammage weights of ingredients, temperature and time, we are trying to make a better bagel. What can I make with a bagel? Try cutting a bagel open and bake face down with jalapeños in the middle hole area topped with a nice melting cheese, add cream cheese then combine the top and bottom. Like vegemite? Take a sliced bagel and repeat the above with vegemite spread to your liking on the bagel top and add cheese if desired! I like colby as it melts nicely! Bagel sandwiches? It's hard to top a traditional onion bagel, lightly toasted with cream cheese and smoked salmon! Capers if you like them ... sliced green olives work fantastic! I like a garlic bagel with cream cheese just as it is! Or I'll add some slices of red onion and a little honey mustard. Beer and wine are great accompaniments for afternoon and evening bagel usage. Brekkie bagels? Slightly under scrambled egg with sautéed mushrooms dripping with Asiago, Cheddar, colby, fontina, Gouda, Gruyère, or Havarti ... or Georgia's favourite, Spinach and feta! No limit to a bagel!
