Summerland Farm is a working macadamia, avocado, pasture raised egg farm and large scale agritourism attraction located in Alstonville, Northern NSW. This beautiful farm has become an iconic part of the North Coast landscape, recognised for its opportunities for people with a disability and its appeal as a major attraction with more than 150 000 visitors each year. The farm was established in 1972 as a regional operation for Aruma (formerly known as House with No Steps) disability organisation, founded by Lionel Watts in Sydney some 10 years earlier. Aruma is dedicated to supporting people to live a great life, the life they want, the life they choose. With over 6500 avocado trees and 6000 macadamia trees Summerland Farm is a successful disability enterprise. Now employing 100 people with a disability, Summerland Farm has grown to become the Distribution Hub of the region, grading, dehusking and packing hundreds and thousands of kilos of fruit and nuts each year from its own orchards, as well as 200 regional farms.
